Marina Del Ray Academy

Marina Del Ray Academy was a project that my Commercial Design I class did together. We came up with the name of the school, the overall concept of the design, and what the overall “look” was going to be. Marina Del Ray Academy is an elementary school in Santa Monica, CA. I was responsible for designing the Computer Lab and the Resource Rooms. Our class decided to make the school represents the ocean. I decided to design the Resource rooms each a different design. Students who go to the Resource rooms need a little extra help with their school work, so I designed each room to help the students get motivated to learn. I wanted every student in the Computer Lab to feel like they were outside camping instead of being stuck in a room with boring walls.

I enjoyed designing my portion of this project. I really could connect with the students in the resource room considering that I too used to be in one. I feel that I knew how kids felt while having to go to the resource room and I wanted to help them feel more confident in themselves and know that it’s alright to need a little extra help. Each resource room is different than the other so that students can choose which room they would like to go to, also these rooms are different then the regular classrooms and the “normal” students would be jealous of those who need a little extra help.

Carlyle Residence Project

The Carlyle’s live in a 1930’s minimal traditional home located in Greensboro, NC. They originally have two rooms; a guest bedroom and a master bedroom. They are also expecting a child. The traditional home will be updated to accommodate their needs for a growing family by adding a bedroom and a garage onto the house. The laundry room will be moved upstairs with adding in a sink, folding space, bench, and a place to store shoes. The kitchen, dining, den/study and the living room will need to be expanded. Due to local building codes, we can only add to the house from the front and back. They have several pieces of artwork and family heirlooms that will be incorporated into this industrial/Scandinavian/modern home.

I personally really enjoyed working on this project.

Sexy Red!

Color page HB

This is my color page from my DES-220 class (Interior Design Fundamentals) for our House Beautiful project. I chose the color Ruby Red because it’s very feminine. Red is worn by every woman to make them feel beautiful and sexy; so why not bring the sexiness to the house! Also the month I chose for my magazine was December so I did a Christmas theme and red goes with Christmas.

Trend Report

From Furniture Market 2017 I saw a recurring trend of  what I would call “Under the Sea” theme, of fur for seating and accessories, and a lot of glitter. Companies are coming up with more furniture that can be pulled out into a bed for smaller spaces. Natural materials are being used more frequently now with chandeliers.
