About Me

My name is Kylie Newman, an Interior Design student at Randolph Community College. I graduated from Asheboro High School of the year 2017. After high school, I immediately went to RCC. Since I am a Student, I wanted to use a blog to show some of the projects that I have done or creating. I will also use this blog to share my experiences at RCC. I am very excited about what the future holds and am excited about showing my designs. Thank you for following me along on this journey.

Metamorphosis Holistic Day Spa

This is my final boards of the Metamorphosis Holistic Day Spa. I had a lot of fun working on this project and playing around with different programs such as Photoshop. I learned how to Spot Render a floor plan and learned how to make different shapes other than circles for the Spot Rendering. My final design kept to its original plan that I had for the thought of. Everything throughout the space is reflected upon the Broken Butterfly to help remind the MS patients that even if a butterfly is broken it is still beautiful. The only thing that I couldn’t do from my original plan was an indoor garden. Once I started space planning I realized that I didn’t have enough space the garden I wanted and it was not the way I had imagined it to turn out to be. Just about everything I used (furnishing & finishes) is sustainable. Space itself is easy for MS patients to travel through with the design of the structure of clean or curvey lines. The main thing I learned from this project was that I cannot always do exactly what I envision it to become due to the amount of space and the codes that are required.

Metamorphosis Holistic Day Spa: Verbal Tour

When you walk into the Metamorphosis Holistic Day Spa you will see the reception desk with a beautiful wall plant that includes pink and white roses. You will also see a  display case that will have our retail products that include candles, incense, hats, scarves, vest, pads, bandanas, etc. There will also be seating to your right for our patients to wait for their therapeutic day to start. To the right of the reception desk is where our patients go for there consult therapy. When you take a left from the reception desk you will first see our pool. Across from the pool is our floor exercise room. The bathrooms are beside of the pool and across from the floor exercise room for our patient’s convenience. as you head down the hall you will automatically see one of our reflection areas which is not closed off and has a perfect view of our butterfly garden. On each side of this reflection area is our massage rooms. When our patients enter the massage room they will feel like they are entering a cocoon as they make their way to the massage bed. Between one of the massage rooms and the floor exercise room is a smaller reflection area that connects to the residents. The massage rooms, the pool, and the floor exercise room have glass walls so they all have a perfect site of the reflection areas. Each reflection area has a butterfly bush and the ceiling above is glass that can open like a greenhouse.

Moses Cone Women’s Health Center

In my Commercial Design class, we have been working on the waiting area and the nurse’s station of a Moses Cone Women’s Health Center as a project. We had to make sure we meet all the necessary codes of conduct that is needed in a health physicality. While designing this project we had to keep in mind that this isn’t just a health care center that sees pregnant women, but a place for women to go to for their yearly exams, pregnancy checkups, baby checkups, breastfeeding support, infertility care/support, neonatal intensive care, pregnancy/childbirth classes, and surgical needs. Everyone who goes into a health physicality gets at least a little bit nervous, you never know if you will get bad news after your appointment. I want to create an environment that will help the women who come here to feel a little at ease/relax. I will be using light pinks, blues, and violets throughout this space along with natural colors. There will be birch trees throughout the space these will be fake or wallpapered. There will also be a water feature behind the reception desk in the waiting area. I will have a variety of chairs for the patient to wait.

SweetShop

This was a project that I worked on for my Fundamentals of Interior Design class. For this project, we had to come up with a client, the name of the sweetshop, and the location. I decided that the sweetshop that I would design would be called Flappers. Flappers sweetshop is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. This sweetshop design is based on the 1920’s. This sweetshop sells cakes, chocolate covered food, and more baked goods.

Flappers Sweetshop Final

I enjoyed designing this project because I love the 1920’s time period. The flappers, bootleggers, and Speakeasy.

NIKE PopUp Store

I had the opportunity to design a NIKE Pop-Up Store in my Commercial Design I class. I decided to create a NIKE store that specifically targeted woman. There ‘s no sports store (that I know of) that sells just women’s products. I decided to have three major sports that are promoted in this store: Dance, Gymnastics, and Cheerleading. These three sports aren’t always considered a sport.

NIKE Presentation

I used Auto CAD to create the neon lights that are displayed on the back, on the wall mirror.
